do the dance
May 31, 2002 @ 08:05 am
I probably should have written last night, but I got caught up in a phone conversation with and that conversation alone didn't happen until 1 am this morning. I spent a good part of last night playing "Hunter: The Reckoning" on the xbox. Steve and I got a good way through it, and I have to say that the game is pretty fun, and I really like the controller setup. Very good for a 3rd person perspective shooter since moving and sidestepping is very effective and very easy to do. Now only if the RPG was good. :( After my experience with it, it is an okay RPG, but doesn't seem to blend very well with the other White-Wolf games.
Speaking of RPGs, I got the new Star Wars book, which has some nice changes. I don't think my players are going to be too fond of some of the modifications though. What I will probably do is let them rebuild their characters, add a few levels, and let them pick up a few years down the line. I need to make copies of the new character sheets and play around with it a little. It's always nice to be familiar with the changes, especially before the "geekend" as likes to call it. Basically the usual RPG crew is going to get together for two straight days of gaming bliss. We aren't quite sure how many different games, or what systems, but we are going to RP our hearts out for a few days. Should be all sorts of fun.…
So hot, my fingers stick together
May 29, 2002 @ 10:05 pm
I have yet to grow used to the searing heat that is in the Sacramento Valley (despite 18 years of it), and I already find myself longing for the nice cool weather that was the central coast. More specifically I mean Monterey. While we have yet to hit the triple digits, I am not used to the concept of turning on the air conditioner in my car because it is too hot to roll down the windows. I look at my skin - I am white as bone, and I know that while I can survive nice moist damp conditions, this dry Sacramento heat is killing me. I have two fans on, lights out, door wide open (as well as window) trying to get in every ounce of cooler air I can. And it really isn't helping.
I spent part of this afternoon finishing up some shopping lists so that tomorrow or Friday morning I can hit a bunch of stores and begin the frenzy known as costume building. I also took the evening to refine my resume. I had some stuff to update on it, and a few more skills to add. The downside to doing project or contract based work is that your resume is always changing as you add new skills and stuff to it. So, now I think I am at "actual resume please hire me - will work for anything?" version 2.5. I only say .5 because this is just some minor work I added, namely the completion of Dennis' site, a revision on my personal website information, and some additional work I did for ASAP involving MS Access. I had my parents look over it (because I trust them like that) and I will probably have a few other people glance at it before I actually send it to WOLS where I hope to get some technical related work. crosses fingers I do want to meet with Paul and talk to him though.…
something
May 22, 2002 @ 10:05 pm
It's nice to be done with the whole finals thing. A very good relief indeed. I have a few tasks I want to finish before I leave Friday morning though, so the more I get done tonight, the better.
I just got back from El Torrito, where Sheyne had her 21st birthday party. It is so strange being the youngest at the party. I mean, even Shannon was older than I was. Of course, I couldn't drink, but I was a DD and that's okay. Sucks being 19 sometimes - and before you say it, yes I know I don't look it. Anyway, we came up about $17 short on the meal, so I sacrificed my extra $20. The money went to pay for Sheyne's dinner (and drinks) though, so it's okay. At present, I am working on a budget for a meeting tomorrow at 10:30 am, and awaiting my chance to escape to "freedom" in Roseville form. It will be good to return home. Of course, there is one down side to this, and that happens to be packing.…
almost there
May 22, 2002 @ 12:05 pm
24 sheet protectors later, I can say my instructional design project is complete. It is a tutorial on using Cascading Style Sheets in Dreamweaver. What is amusing about it is that I have over 20 pages of documentation for a 3 page project itself. That aside though, the project is complete, and is ready for evaluation and to be turned in. I also turned in my SL evaluation, and am about to do my online one. After that, 2 papers dropped off at ASAP and I AM DONE!!!!
It's so close, I can taste it.…
Otter Matsuri Planning Ideas
May 19, 2002 @ 10:05 pm
I must keep going in a forward direction. It is almost Monday which means stuff is almost due - things I haven't had a chance to touch since the five day countdown to OM 2. I must start it soon, however, so this is likely to be a short entry.
Otter Matsuri was amazing. Our two biggest things were Violinist and Chi no Tsuki. All said, we had about 80 people over the course of the day, which was more than we expected for in the middle of finals. We brought in people from as far north as San Francisco, and as far south as San Luis, which was decent reach for this year. Next year is going to be bigger, better, and planned a even earlier than this one was. Our goal: First Saturday in May will be Otter Matsuri 3. I may as well get that plan out in the open. We want at least 3 viewing rooms and 2 panel rooms for live programming, and hopefully can get a few industry people more from the manga end of things. We have every intention of doing more than just anime though. Here were our ideas to date:…
this is how our brain works
May 19, 2002 @ 02:05 am
Revelation: I can't feel my feet anymore, or my arms for that matter. I was at Charles' for about the last 12 hours working on the last pieces of Otter Matsuri. The last piece of things that must be done is the program, a very low-resolution version of which can be seen here (in pdf). Isn't our little mascot so cute?! ^_^
Anyway, so that has been where I have been spending my life. I wish I could say I could sleep now, but that isn't really an option. I have to do my Instructional Design work, at least to a point where I will be able to get the rest of it done tomorrow night after OM2. For anyone who ever wanted to put on a large scale anime-festival, prepare to devote a lot more time to it than you ever thought you would. Thankfully, while working, we had Magic Knights Rayearth as background noise and distraction, something none of us had seen in a long time. When we switched to Chi No Tsuki, we had finished the 3rd DVD. 12 episodes, 6 hours, more than enough CLAMP for any one person.…
parents, how do they do it?
May 17, 2002 @ 08:05 pm
Parents have an amazing ability to make your life impossible, and create "perfect" situations from which you have no escape. Case and point, my location for where I am going to live this summer.
The original plan was that I would stay in the on-campus apartments this summer, pay $260 a month for rent, plus food expenses, and make about $304 a week working at two on-campus locations. That Idea fell to shit when Julane said nobody could move into the apartments until August 15th because they had to be "cleaned". To this exact moment, I can't help but wonder how they clean an apartment with a tenant still in it. That aside, my next option is the dormitories, where I will be spending $15 per day, which totals $457 per month. Okay, income of 1200 a month, expense of 450. This should still work right? Wrong. Enter the parent.…
Monday, Monday
May 13, 2002 @ 04:05 pm
Gack! Finals! They are not only here, but planning to last for the next two weeks! I am sorry my poor journal, but you are being typed in at ASAP since I don't have time to go back to my room and sit down in front of you for some quality reflection time.
This last weekend was amazing, which put me in a good mood (yes, it's true I do smile sometimes) for today and probably for the week. So what exactly put me in this wonderful mood? Well, Saturday was "All Day Eva" put on by the CSUMB Anime Club, and that spanned all the way into Sunday as well. After Eva, I went over to Nehara's room, and we went to go get Chinese food and then we went over to the Galaxy cinemas. Yes, it was like 7 at night, but guess who got opening day tickets to go see Episode II? Awww, yeah, you know it. ^_^ Hey, I think it happens to be cool that nobody here in the Monterey area appreciates movies enough to go see it. I remember back home in Roseville having to stand in line for so long to get tickets, and then all over again to see the movie. So anyway, let me restate this, I have Episode II tickets!…
quick note before night
May 09, 2002 @ 11:05 pm
While Nero does some phat CD burning action, I decided to take the time to write in you, my precious little journal. Note: I don't think I will be calling it that ever again. Anyway, I spent most of today in class, except for my first class, where I spent the time at the computer preparing my project for my English class. That went off relatively well, and Spanish was its usual bore. I almost have my letter to Allie done, which is a comforting thing. I will probably finish it tonight, get my gifts and whatnot together and get that sucker in the mail tomorrow. It will feel good to have a week turnaround on a piece of mail that isn't electronic. For me, that's a major accomplishment.
It looks like I will be going home to Sacramento for the summer, as Julane of Fort Ord Asset Management said nobody can move into the apartments until August 15th. By doing this, the only other option is a summer dorm, costing a nice pretty $450 a month and you even get to share it with another person. Geez, for $900 I could easily go get a decent place. ~_~ Sometimes I wonder about this school.…
weekend brief
May 05, 2002 @ 06:05 pm
Okay, so the weekend is finally over. I'm not sure if that is a good thing, (closer to school) or a bad thing (stuff is due). I am finally getting a chance to sit at my computer after a very long CPU drought.
Saturday's filming was cancelled, so I took the chance to run some errands that I needed to pretty badly. I also went to SunCoast with Makari and got Jin-Roh, something I have been meaning to get for quite some time now, but haven't been actively seeking. After that, we got some lunch, talked to Charles for a bit, and video gamed the rest of the day away. I am back to playing Perfect Dark on Eric's N64, and since I can't own either Makari or Eric in either Day of Defeat or Jedi Knight II, I will settle for the console platform ass-kick. ^_^…
geez the hour
May 04, 2002 @ 02:05 am
It's quiet in my room, as my roommate is gone for the weekend. Not that it wouldn't be quiet anyway at this hour, but well, this is a different kind of quiet. This is the I can turn the TV on, make noise, and be me kind of quiet. The time isn't something I am feeling, which is probably a good thing. It will give me time to type up a few emails. That and do my homework, although I am not so keen about that idea. I will probably get some research done though. My current topic is the development of computers in the 1980s and their short and long term impacts on society. Granted I could probably BS most of it without a problem, I do need those things called "sources" in order to make it work.
It's cold in this room. And on a totally unrelated note, I had a chance to catch up on all my journals I read. It's only a once a week thing I get to do in terms of catching up.…
sick
May 02, 2002 @ 11:05 am
I'm sick. I slept like a rock from a little past midnight until noon. Thankfully my HCOM class was cancelled, so I only ended up missing one class. My throat is really sore though, almost as if it is all scratched up. I spent the hours of awakeness (read all one of them) doing some research for my paper due at the end of the semester.
Class, work, Chat the Movies... I don't know if I should be excited or sad there isn't much excitement in my life at the moment.…
