Sunny Days
September 30, 2002 @ 10:09 pm
Today was really a good day, which was nice since I haven't had a genuinely good day in a while. Now, by a good day, I mean more than just things going my way. I also mean beautiful weather, some time to be introspective, not feeling rushed, being incredibly productive, and then reaching night at being perfectly content with how the day went. Yeah, it was one of those days. ^^
The day started out with me running almost late, but I ended up getting to class just in time. The class itself was a lab, which meant I didn't have to spend the time listening to Rick talk, and we got to try some hands on stuff. Of course, our group didn't need to go through the basics, so we took it a step farther and started subnetting and seeing what we could do with 4 PCs, an external telnet, a switch, and some time. It made for an interesting lab, especially since Rick could help us when we got stuck on a few configuration things.…

October is a really special month. In all honesty, it has nothing to do with my Birthday being on Thursday. For some reason, October has just been one of those months where things are on the up. Unfortunately, however, the month immediately following it is November, and things seem to be pretty dangerous that month. ^^ But that is a whole other conversation. The important thing is, October is almost here, as is Ani-Magic! The outline for the panel is slowly forming, and I have a really clever idea for how to get clubs working together. The first trick is in the handouts themselves. The first side will be the information, but the back is the important one. It will have pairings of blank lines so people can write down club contact information. We then spend the first 10 or so minutes in more of a casual wandering around / introducing phase before we sit down for the panel. The next big thing is CAC announcements, which are mostly changes to the white pages that people need to be aware of. These are things like Renée having left Viz, and who the new contact information is. That will take about five or so minutes. The next 30 are pretty straightforward, as that is the panel information itself, focusing on the three P's of a successful club: Publicity, Purpose, and Passion. The target audience is geared towards academic clubs, especially since all schools have basically started by now.
Publicity will include advertising, ideas, weighing colors vs. non-color, strategic placing ideas, and advertising methods that involve no flyers at all! Purpose is the next piece, in which club will be thinking about why they do Anime Club. It could be as simple as to watch Anime, but some groups have higher objectives such as the promotion of Japanese culture, or things like that. There really is no such thing as a bad purpose, it is however important to be aware of the club's purpose. The last piece is Passion, which more or less goes without saying. So those are the primary topics for the 30 min or so. After that, the last 10-15 are club panel time, where we ask one representative from each club to come up and then it is a big Q&A thing for the all the clubs. Knowing that we may run over, we will prolly have to cut it short and move to the pool or something. (I wanna see Arty's Panel though! lol)…
fishless fry

Well, it is kind of hard to take care of things when the people that you need to directly address decide they aren't going to be there. And furthermore, they don't let you know they are not going to attend. So we had a good 'ole party at the ICC meeting without them. Basically the situation is moving higher up the food chain, which is quite okay by me. I can only do so much, and if others do some of the work, I am not about to interject.
So, what was going to be a fun meeting, and one I prepped for quite a bit both as Anime Club President and as ICC Treasurer ended up being for naught. Although the information will be good to pass upwards, I kinda wanted to have some fun this evening.…

I left my Computer architecture class early, mostly because I was bored and wasting my time. Not that I'm not doing the same back here at the apartment. It feels like I never even see my apartment between 10am and 9pm or so, which is slightly annoying. The one good thing that tends to come out of it is when I go home, it really is "home". Of course, since I spent last weekend in SC, and will be spending part of the next, I am really starting to like this whole "home" concept. It's where I cook my meals, where I lay my head to sleep (parties and out of town trips excepted), where I do my HW, and where I get to relax and zone out listening to music and staring at the computer screen for hours at a time. "Home" is indeed a wonderful thing.
Last night, I played SSBM with some people from Monterey Peninsula College. Perhaps played is too kind of a word - I got 0wn3d. Yes, worked so bad, that it actually requires the use of horrific leet. One on one matches were Jakob - 0, Rachel 1, August 1. I don't think I have ever seen skill like that. I did learn a lot though, and I shall now be refining my skills in a hidden dojo beneath a waterfall in preparation for this next weekend. At least in the 3-way match I managed to win. That made me feel a tad better about my gaming ability. ^_^…

All I ever wanted to do was change the color of some existing text. Had I known that it would mean pawing through this holy hell-hole of documentation, I would have never tried this class. C++ was easy to learn. Visual Basic was picked up without a problem. Even PERL was a snap, so I am sitting here, staring at my text editor, and I am only able to think of one thing.…

Aside from the gaming our group did this weekend, about the only other thing I did (besides sleep) was do even more work on my super-secret-project. I like having a name for it like that. It keeps everyone guessing. I need to write an email tomorrow, and when I do, I want to have the site design in a temporary stage and then be ready to do it all on the green light. Rob says I should write the email ASAP, so I will probably finish touching up the site, add a detailed explanation, state its goals, its purpose, how they are achieved, and what I am hoping to accomplish with the site. Apparently, the guy I am writing to isn't fast to respond, so I need to get this off so Rob can start pushing. Once I get the green light, I will probably start slipping the design out to those I know who do web design and see what feedback I can get.
Working on this concept ate up most of my spare time today, which is not too bad, since my day didn't really start until like noon anyway. I got lunch at Compaños with Amanda, and we talked about our jobs, our lives, and basically just caught up on a summer of not really talking. She has changed a lot from last year, which is probably a good thing. I mean, if she hadn't I'm not really sure how much we'd still talk, if at all. After some very good sandwiches, I did some small shopping at Albertson's, dropped her off back at campus, and returned to the apartment. Since then, I have more or less been working on the project I mentioned above. Jake and Erin were in the room for a while tonight, and I spent some of my evening working on character sheets, and converting them from e-tools to Hero Forge.…
