Stop thinking in a language I don’t understand

July 31, 2003 @ 01:07 pm

Right, so I haven't been coding, well too much lately. I have however been spending a lot of time with KOTR. Sure, my X-box is back in Monterey, but I can look longingly at the game box, plot and scheme, and I even have a memory pack so if I do play it for a bit, I will be able to return to the central coast with my Jedi in hand. Oh KOTR how I love thee so. A few days ago, H, Steve, and I were over at the Blairsters watching him be an evil bastard in the game. He managed to get two warring families to not only shoot their others' children in the open, but then kill each other as well. And I think that sums up nicely just how evil a bastard you can be in the game. I'll save you any more rambling on the game, since if you really want to know, you can go see Tycho's obsession with it on a site far more popular than mine. Just go look for the guy helping Jawas into furnaces; can't miss 'em.

In addition to a healthy dose of video games, I have also gotten a lot of work done in the realm of programming. Gotten a bit more work at ASAP done, and got the Kaizoku-Fansubs project manager online. Now I am going back and adding bells and whistles like a BitTorrent admin program, CRC numbers and release information, etc. Eventually I am going to take screen captures and put it all in my portfolio. I also need to talk ASAP into getting a pair of sexy magnetic card readers with keyboard emulation since they are so anal about "no using SSN" in the database. In a university where every student's only unique identifier is their ssn, wouldn't it make sense then to use that (especially if in an encrypted form)? I'm not crazy about the SSN idea myself, but there is no way I am going to manually assign numbers for 3-4000 students. That's just stupid.…

Ari-who?

July 25, 2003 @ 06:07 pm

I must say, dealing with a web provider can be frustrating, annoying, and just sometimes bad. This is my conversation with the Arivoo technical support for a web site I help work on. Many of you who deal with your providers will appreciate this conversation. After all, why wouldn't you reboot one of your servers in the middle of the day? Oh yeah, that's right, people usually are trying to use it. Uhg. Anyway, here is the conversation. Script For the record, it's been down now almost an hour.

Workin Workin Workin

Short entry, still on a programming deadline. Just wanted to tell the One Ring Circus group that their costumes were absolutely amazing, incredible, and 100% deserving of the praise they got.

And now, back to this deadline. XD…

More of the Usual Drivel

July 17, 2003 @ 12:07 am

I always thought for the longest times that forums and usenet were the largest and most compact gathering of idiots around. I stand corrected and hand that title over to IRC. It's live 24/7 idiocy. I don't care to single out people in K-F, but it has been showing up the most there with people talking out their ass about stuff they know nothing about. At first it is rather funny, and you can pretend to argue with them, save the conversation, and then go back and laugh at it. Eventually though, you just get sick of it.

Still out hunting for summer employment, and am having little to no luck in any kind of market. My personal favorite application story is being told by Roseville Temps I was "overqualified" for many of their jobs. Right, so still in the hunt for one of those job things too. Going to polish up my resume a bit more, though I doubt at this stage any job I am getting will actually require one.…

Connection Reset By Peer

July 14, 2003 @ 05:07 pm

Quiet lazy day, roommate issues, etc. Either need to find another way to do work from home or just tell ASAP "kthxbye" and not bother working there. If you haven't guessed, I'm still a bit bitter about getting half the promised summer hours. I am having Jake set up some stuff at ASAP for me so hopefully I can resume work by tomorrow afternoon.

I will probably need to format my computer when I get back to Monterey. One of my roommates took it upon themselves to unplug me from the network, not knowing that I was synchronizing stuff between my computer in Monterey and the ASAP machine. Looks like it corrupted a good number of files to where I couldn't delete them. Hopefully it didn't do the same on the ASAP side. I wish I had gotten a bit of warning so I could have cancelled the operation. That's a battle I don't care to fight though.…

there’s something about this rush - take it away

July 14, 2003 @ 12:07 am

It's not too hard to feel the sleep approaching, so I doubt this will be a long entry.

Got up today, did some work, some job hunting, some more work. Did some cleaning around the house, downloaded some stuff, did some work for downloadanime.org, hung out with H, and played some games.…

Of Muddled Sites and Muddled Sights

July 13, 2003 @ 01:07 am

Advance Wars 2 takes me back to the days of Turn-Based Strategy and I am loving every minute of it. The process of plotting, planning, and executing a well thought out battle plan is much better than anything RTS could offer. And there is a thrill and satisfaction in sending out big tanks to whoop on the little things. I've had the game maybe 4 hours, gotten two good games in, and it has been good fun. Plus, now I can play (thanks to the Game Boy Player) Link to the Past on my Gamecube. It's the SNES reborn (again)!

In other news, I have been busy doing work for ASAP and started looking for a job. My tutoring center decided they were going to be lame about my summer work. On one hand, this gives me my summer, but on the other, if I find a job that offers somewhat comparable pay and better hours, I doubt I will continue with my tutoring center into the fall. Shame too, I really liked working there, but living in Monterey on seven hours a week is beyond impossible.…

Blog on six wheels!

July 10, 2003 @ 11:07 pm

Long time no...blog?

I don't think I have sat down to write a serious entry for quite some time. I wish I could say that it has been so long I have forgotten how to do it, but let it be known the that process of throwing yourself to the dogs of the Internet is something you never forget how to do. I have given a lot of thought to if I want to write a full on Con Report, and have decided I won't really bother. You're in it for the galleries, I'm in the lazy mood, and the pictures are still at Longs anyway, costing me money to get them developed. Hopefully, they will be done by Monday or Tuesday and I can grab them then. Once I have those, I will post up the galleries and stuff.…
