It's a short update, Pocket PC style. Last nights' ramblings were placed on hold thanks to some HCOM homework. Things are looking up for the house, although one could say in the same setence that things are also looking down. Eric, Kryn, and Matt are supposed to look at the place one last time today at 1 before signing any sort of agreement. I had to put my foot down about Internet and stuff, the need for high speed net being critical to me during my senior capstone project. So, in the end of it all, I might not be moving anywhere, and Lisa may become their 4th roommate. Jake has gotten much better about cleaning up, so the issue has now become moving out before I start on my masters program.
In happier non-house news, Ani-Magic is coming soon. Between the con and the birthday thing, I have a really big weekend coming up. The final AM list is: H, C, Chris, Michelle, Sheyne, Piroko, myself, and hopefully 1 or 2 people from Santa Cruz; I'd prefer another guy.…
Shiny!
September 28, 2003 @ 04:09 pm
In case the long silence wasn't a clue, and just in case the new burgundy color wasn't a tip, felocity.org has been given a new shiny layout! There is a small list of things I have left to do, including but not limited to...
- Thank FB, Shiru, Cyn personally for their help with this page, talking to me late, and giving me guidance with colors
- Redo the links page because some people's links have changed
- Finish the cam display thingamajig. At least the rest of the front end.
- Show said cam display thingamajig to Tu and make him jealous and then make the sexy backend to it
- Whore my link out and make use of Shiru's shiny button she gave me
- Find time to do all of the above since I used my homework day today to do it
On this site right here, you may have noticed a few additions to the right side bar, as well as the entries. I now support trackbacks and manual trackbacks, so you can leave your thoughts on entries and comments here or perhaps on your own blog. I also put in place a couple of really sexy modifications to Movable Type: SimpleComments, Manual Trackback, and a small mod that triggers auto-rebuilding are all in place. Add to this a ping interface that lets my WinAmp update my "now playing" section, and this site just got more powerful and dynamic.…
Today’s Lesson

This is going to be very short. When you are an op in IRC, you have some obligations to the people in the channel. To keep order, to be fair, and to balance the channel. To do this, you have three major ways of removing a problem: kick, kickban, akick. Let's look at these in a nice simple fashion. Maybe you too, an op of an IRC channel can appreciate the differences and use what you think is appropriate.
Kick: /kick #channel nick reason perhaps the simplest of maneuvers, a swift kick in the bum is likened to a slap on the wrists. When a user is kicked, their activity in the IRC channel is frozen for a moment, making sure the OPs warning got to them. Since most people have their chat programs auto-rejoin, a kick is nothing more than a minor inconvenience. Additionally, beyond being just a small slap, a kick can be funny, amusement, or just plain boredom. On a scale of 1 to being rammed up the ass, kicking only rates about a 2.5.…
Another Fine Day
September 22, 2003 @ 04:10 pm
I write now, on my dinner break while the horrible xchat installs on my system, while I try and download the next set of episodes onto my torrent seeding machine, while I try and keep my nick at home connected to the network, while I try and figure out what is going on, while I try and figure out how I am getting dinner tonight or if this is going to be something I will have to wait until like 10pm for or I should just trust leaving my removable drive at ASAP even though five Zip Drives were stolen from here over last year, while I try and plan for when I should swing by Jen's room tonight in order to "just say hi", while working on my homework due tomorrow, while playing Final Fantasy Tactics: Advance in every moment of my free time, while blogging, while designing my web site, while relearning the finer points of CSS, while attempting to not go crazy.
If it wasn't already obvious, I have had a really busy day. It didn't actually start this way, with waking up naturally in the morning and playing some games and doing some homework throughout the four or five hours that consisted of AM. As soon as A went P though, things just started getting ugly. And not slowly either, as it appeared as though some sick exponential wave of stress decided to thrust itself square into my chest. I'm still sort of woozy from it, although I have decided today I will need to put dinner off at least for a bit while longer while stuff finishes. From there, it is a matter of time before I go to class, and it is probably not enough time before class to grab some food. I will figure out something though since I wanted to swing by Jen's this evening, even if only to say hi.…
In A Way
September 20, 2003 @ 10:09 am
I did a second sketch of felocity.org's new site layout, and I like it a lot better than the first. It retains a lot of the elements I liked in the old one, without being so red. I will probably redo the entire style sheet again at some point. I have fum to thank for her creative genius (and being awake to talk to at ungodly hours of the morning) for this one.
Last night was pretty cool. I got to go see a comedian who didn't show up, see a movie that had Kat in it (which while funny was kind of disturbing), and walk around campus a bit. Of course, this was all made better by getting to hang out with Sarah and her friend Megan. We talked about going to some buildings and exploring, but it just got too late in the evening after the movie and we were kinda tired. Today I am grabbing some lunch, maybe hanging out a bit, and who knows what else. Stuff is always pretty good about popping up.…
Eve of One, Morning of Another
September 17, 2003 @ 06:09 pm
It's time for one of those entries from class. Now, this isn't to say Don is boring, as he is one of the best lecturers I have had. He makes a class about what would otherwise be boring things...fun!
Distro for Episode 59 occurs tonight, and tomorrow is Thursday. From what I gathered, it consists of reading, writing, some other Englishy things, finishing my math homework, some capstone action shopping with Jen, Finding Nemo in the evening, and maybe a bit of fun in various assorted places.…
The Swing of Things
September 15, 2003 @ 02:09 pm
Writing an entry from ASAP, let alone having the time to write an entry period lately has been something that has kept slipping my mind. I seem to have established a good trend of getting halfway through writing something deep, meaningful, and interesting, but then falling asleep before I finish, leaving an outdated and irrelevant piece of writing I delete and start over with. Sure, I could post those half finished entries, but it would probably piss you off if mid sentence I suddenly
I've been really hard on myself lately, both for who I am and what I think. I've also been on a big "boys suck" kick, which is probably spawned from recent silly "dorama" and furthered by my own personal dislike of about 90% of the things we guys do. I refer to guys using the royal we because deep down, despite how much I act like a cat, try and be open, honest, breaking down the stereotypes, at the root of everything, I still have a penis. Unfortunately, that defective Y chromosome responds to other Y's in the area, and it makes for really stupidly uncomfortable situations. I spent a good while complaining to Jen about how I hate the way guys act and how wrong it is for them to act that way, knowing full well I was one of those guys (if even on a subconscious level) acting that way. It left me feeling very ill to my stomach and very helpless to the situation. As I have said before, and will probably say for ever: "damn boys".…
Damn Boys
September 13, 2003 @ 10:10 am
Last night was really crazy, and for those of you who were around in some capacity, I suppose I should apologize. I had my spirits crushed under the thumb of a suave guy, and that was that. I sort of deserved it, me being optimistic for a change and all, but anyway, that's enough of that.
Kari made an interesting comment that everyone has been writing less now that school has started. I would actually agree with this statement, though for those who are blogging from the land of CSUMB, I am sure the lack of Internet has been very influential in this process. With the Internet once more functioning semi-normal, I can now sit and type a journal entry without spending the entire time trying to keep my computer connected. I've been so busy with school that I haven't even touched my cosplay projects for Ani-Magic which is coming up far too fast for my comfort.…

I had a pretty large rant prepared about the desire to want to release a decent quality fansub, but you aren't going to get that tonight. After all, we shouldn't be picking on any groups, no matter what grounds their group was founded on or how little effort they put into spell checking their script.
I was also going to spread the excitement about Kaizoku-Fansubs releasing Movie 2 soon. But it's been a bit stressful (and a bit of a disheartening experience), but I will get to that later. Instead, I figure since I've been at this academic thing for a week and a half now, I have a really good guess of how my semester will be. If all signs point in the direction they have been pointing, then this semester is going to leave little time for sleep, and even less time for food. It seems my spare moments on campus during the day are being spent in meetings, at work, filing forms, or talking with faculty in preparation for my capstone and my masters education. From the instant I get home until I pass out, I have a book open; even when chatting or working on subtitle stuff. I read for a bit, check channel windows, come back to reading, do a few lines in an episode, resume the reading, do a math problem, set up a special distro channel so that we can pull in the external help for this 700 mb insanity they are releasing soon in the channel.…
Dates sneak up on you quick
September 03, 2003 @ 11:09 am
Something good had to come out of all the network problems. For me, this was realizing I could hand-edit a Sub-Station-Alpha file 3-4 times faster than in the program or on a QC encode. Add to this the time I save not downloading a QC copy and this makes me very happy.
Classes have been moving along at a pretty average pace, although I must say, I am slowly getting a distaste for English. The HCOM classes here laugh in the face of grammatical style, even when your professor has a heavy emphasis on style. Don't believe me? He told the class that since 4 pages was a lot for people to write, all papers will be in 12 point Courier, double spaced. I don't know about you, but for me that screams an essay of a page and a half. And this is supposed to be a creative Argumentation class! Our first assignment is to analyze an advertisement. We are to look at it's argument using the principles of egos/pathos/logos, or we are to do a style analysis on it. Chris, Joel, Steve, Gabe, Blair, etc, does this sound a lot like the crap we did in Robertson and Kerns? Probably more frustrating than anything is that there is no assessment / challenge for this course, and my AP Scores don't let me by it. My university excels at not articulating things properly. Example:…
