Too much CPU
October 26, 2004 @ 12:10 am
Yeah, I don't believe it either, but apparently I got an email from my hosting company stating I was using mre than 16% of the CPU per hour. I can only trace to two or three things I've done that might incur such a thing, but those were also a while ago. I somehow doubt Coppermine and Textpattern are at fault here. Just to be safe, I disabled Textpattern's logging completely, so as to reduce the number of queries per second being made.
Has anyone else experienced these kinds of processor spikes using either CPG or TXP? I scoured the forums to no avail. I did also call and send aplus.net an email. I'll keep everyone posted. Since I can't see error logs, top shows only my php processes, and I couldn't solve things over the phone, I bundled up all my information and shipped it off with a nice "please explain the spikes" message. 16% per hour is a lot. So either there is something really broken, or there is something back asswards with the tracking they are doing. So yeah, filed my ticket, stated I would like to resolve the issue, and will leave it at that.…
The Men’s Changing Room- “Men” Optional?
October 25, 2004 @ 12:10 am
The best cure for an ill mood is some shopping and taking it easy. I feel a bit less stressed, though I still have a lot to do this weekend.
... one of these things was clearly not update my journal since it is now Sunday night, the weekend is gone, and only now am I looking at doing an update. I've started on the Rowgaine thing- 22 and balding, fuck you hair, I'm not letting you go yet, I like you too much. So yeah, twice a day I am putting a funny smelling topical thing on my scalp in an attempt to not go bald.…
Gaia, Textpattern, Job Change, Web Site
October 19, 2004 @ 09:10 am
Let's see, in the past week, I finished my job at the postgraduate school, started my new job, got my iPod and its accessories, ordered my powerbook, got to have a nice and relaxing weekend (and can't think about sundaes at Denny's without cracking up), and am now going to head out day two of work. The work doesn't feel like work; I got up at 8 am this morning to do some of this [work" on the side.
I need cat ears for at my cubicle. I don't want to take my normal pair simply because I like having my ears around the house and in easy reach. My iPod has made the drive up to Milpitas much easier though, as Griffin Technologies' iTrip lets me listen to sweet sweet MP3s the entire time. (For the curious, it's a 40GB with click wheel.)…

Sacamento and my sinuses don’t mix
October 10, 2004 @ 09:10 pm
I hate Sacramento in the summer because of the heat, but I never knew I would harbor such dislike for it in the fall. This of course, all changed when the wind kicked up and I've spent the past weekend popping Sudafed like candy and trying to find multiple ways to breathe, let alone function. I did however, learn that when your sinuses are blocked, hanging upside down is the worst possible thing you can do. It only results in a headache.
Oh, and I got http://photos.felocity.org back up once again. Not that I have anything new up there, but I figured I should rebuild at least something. Additionally, I uploaded my portfolio pictures and did some work for my job. I still have two sections to write by Tuesday, and since I am not getting enough time at work, I took it home this weekend to work on. It's got to be done, after all.…
Switching Servers and CMS

You'll have to excuse the mess... I've been working on getting Textpattern running on Aplus.net's hosting package. Since they use suEXEC and run PHP in CGI mode (not as an apache module), I required modrewrite wizardry to implement Textpattern's Clean URL scheme. Max Ziebell of flashrocket.com put together a mod …
