The Musical Baton

May 17, 2005 @ 04:05 pm

Courtesy of Mike I have been handed the musical baton Before I kick into the nitty-gritty and deliciously soft center of this meme though, I'd like to take a minute to speculate why this music related meme caught on in the circle of blogs that I read regularly. My first guess is that most of us are mac users, my second guess is, more than 70% of us have found a way to put our iTunes playlists up on the internet for the rest of the world to browse. Or, maybe we just like tormenting each other. I'm leaning more towards the second option. In any case, there's a lot to be said about the music on my computer.

Total volume of music files on my computer: For better or for worse, a Get Info tells me I have 17.88 GB of music in my folder. I had just finished cleaning out a lot of J-Pop that I don't listen to. It used to be somewhere around 24 GB. I can't say I miss the music I don't have though.…

Back to Basics, Anime Expo Improves

May 12, 2005 @ 03:05 pm

Many of you may remember that I made an entry proposing a way to redesign AX's web page without any new images. This information was sent via the contact form with a strong professional opinion. Recently, Anime Expo launched a new page and I am happy to say that at least some of the fundamental reccomendations were taken into consideration. The simple addition of section titles without mouseover improved things several times over. If you have a minute, go thank them on their contact form.

Maroon 5

We were sitting side-stage on the 270 degree stage, and in my opinion, our seats were far better than those who were in the lower section at the very back. In order to increase seating for the venue, they used the lengthwise distance as opposed to a wide, open stage. Since we were sitting on the side, we were very close to being right over the stage. We could also see everything going on behind the sceens.

Probably one of the more memorable moments from the night was when they had "finished their set" and the lights went out. Everything about it screamed that it was a planned encore. However, they did do a cover of Oasis and played two new songs for the crowd.…

Solving glx_if problems with Textpattern

May 02, 2005 @ 11:05 pm

I came across a strange occurance when I was working with the @ tag from Johan Nilsson. However, after I upgraded to RC3, I noticed that the global variable $is_article_list suddenly started turning up as NULL. After some futzing with the plugin, I found an alternate way to determine if the URL you are at. This makes use of the Clean URL implementation in TXP, which is the default as of the latest subversion revision. Just edit the existing glx_if plugin and replace theglxifsectionfrontpageandglxifnotsection_frontpage@ with the two functions below.

And there you have it. Section page testing is working again-- it seemd to have thrown my journal for a loop. If anyone can think of another way of checking section front pages, I'd love to hear it!…
