A little Zelda, a little art, a little bad news

Well, first would be the bad news, which came from ASAP today. Thanks to the wonderful hole we are in, work will be seeing some serious cuts, upwards of 25%. The direct translation is less hours, less projects, and ultimately, less pay. How this will translate fully, I'm not totally sure, but even with the raise, I may be coming up shorter than last semester. In order to break even with my projected income, I can only lose 1 out of every 6 hours in the week. Cut three hours and I am just under, cut 4 and I will probably have to scale my hours back more for that annoying thing called a second job. But enough about the lame.

I got up today and got a lot of work done, almost completely finishing the Anime Club newsletter. I want to get it proofed before it goes out though, and it will probably be a wide-distribution meaning it will reach some of the people in other clubs as well. I haven't started on the CAC stuff, and Rob has yet to get me the BAAS stuff. I should probably just call Phil Temple who does the newsletter and see if he has more information about the upcoming things so I can have those ready to go.

A little past 1, I made my way to campus since I wanted to pick up my paycheck and deposit it, as well as stop by SACD and ASAP. I am sort of curious where the reimbursements we have outstanding for members are, since we are nearing the three month mark, and that isn't really fair to them. Of course, neither of the people that could get me the information were in, so I am going to have to send off emails tonight. I did see my ICC paperwork I need for a Feb 3 meeting in my inbox already, which made me quite happy. After doing everything I could at SACD, I made my deposit at the bank and went to the Post Office. Now, I have been without a mail key since school started. According to the Post Office, they only issued 2 keys to our apartment, and there should be 4. There is a very good chance that either the old keys were lost, or just never turned in. Of course, there is no penalty for copying mail keys, so we can make as many copies as we want. Apparently, even after we leave the apartment, we can keep these keys as well. At some point then, I will have to get a key via Ace Hardware.

After a bit of food (note: at this point it was 3 and my stomach had begun to complain), I got back to the apartment and continued to work on Illustrator stuff. I finally took a break, fired up Majora's Mask, and got all the way to where I had the Light Arrows. Kari came over and we talked for some time about her trip and life in general. Eventually it was over to her place for pizza, and then back here to finish some work and watch TV.

So why would I, the most graphically inept person be wrestling with vector graphics? Because this:

The above is what was slated as the club logo. Enter me going "what in the hell is that?!" so I did what I could with what skills I could muster. I must say, I do love Illustrator, and Adobe Streamline is my friend. Unfortunately, nothing could save it, and this was the best I could do:

Unfortunately, while the concept is cool, the art itself isn't stellar, and I didn't have the original artwork (or even the original scan) to start from. Part of me wonders if the thing was ever inked properly. I'm personally still very much a fan of Colin's Dragon picture, but then again, I like dragons a lot more, I still think something simple would be a lot better than the above, especially for something that will be sent to businesses and put on the membership cards. The above makes us look unprofessional, and not very serious about it. I like the idea, but it needs to be done correctly. And by someone with some art talent.
