Distracted by a damn shiny object

I went Sea Kayaking on Saturday, and I am still paying for it today in the office. Thank goodness slack pants are soft and comfortable, else I would really have a long day today. To say I got sunburned would perhaps be the understatement of the year. It hurts to even furrow my eyebrows currently. Outside of that though, the weekend was wonderful. I even managed to hook into some wireless on Sunday to catch up in my new duties.

As if I wasn't already doing enough, I'm now doing things for a small (well, not small anymore) web site that someone forced me to sign up for back in April. That's not to say I regret signing up, as I've had my eye on this group for a long time. I'm just lazy and enjoyed lurking. Long story short, I signed up, was sucked in, saw they would be at a convention, threw myself into my usual at-con chaos, and that was that. There is a lot more to it, but for brevity sake, I've added one more thing to my long list of things I do to spend time online. Speaking of projects...

  • NetProject - 0.3.something? Haven't touched it in about a month, doing stability testing
  • Gaia Imagemap - need to summon desire to code, heh
  • Kaizoku-Fansubs.com - appears mostly stable (finally, yay!)
  • B.A.A.S. - waiting on content, lost contact with Rob
  • Gaia - Everyday learning experience, woo

As if that wasn't enough, job and RECCACon add nicely on top of it all. It keeps me busy though, which I am not by any means objecting to. The weeks are full of daytime tasks, the nights are full of online fun, and the weekends I just let fly. Unfortunately, you will notice "blog" isn't anywhere in there, and so I've neglected my content duties.

Moving into more interesting things, if you are one who is a fan of Emulation (and who isn't from time to time) you may know that Jaleco created a Game Boy Advance game that emulated five classic Nintendo / Famicom titles. Andy Baio provided Loopy's reply to the theft and his stance on open source. Seeing someone who believes so strongly in the true Public Domain is impressive, though I fear Loopy is of a dying breed. It's hard to sink so much energy into something and then see your work picked up and integrated elsewhere. I suppose the issue would have been complicated even more had Jaleco then locked down the code, claiming it theirs, and going after the developer of PocketNES. What he has done is probably the hardest thing anyone could do with their code in the PD- accept that someone else will use it, profit, and not acknowledge you officially. The community knows though, and that alone has forever solidified PocketNES as one of the better emulators out there.
