My arms hurt. But then again, I haven't twirled glowsticks in so long, I had thought I'd forgotten how.

The occasion was Karen's 21st, and while she wanted to get sloshed, she didn't want to deny us under 21 people all the fun. So we instead went to a place called "The Body Shop" in San Jose. It would have been fun, it should have been fun, but it was Hip Hop, and not of the nerdcore style. I remember now four very important aspects of Hip Hop nightclubs..,things I also noticed at the Classic Jukebox back home.

  1. The guys just want sex
  2. The girls just want attention
  3. The music is poor
  4. and the lighting is worse

I talked with the person doing lighting, who was located with the DJ at the back of the room. Not even on the stage! Well, the light patterns are all computer controlled, no use of a DMX at all. While I appreciate automation and all that jazz, the lighting was not in sync with the music, inconsistent, and sometimes outright dangerous. You just don't kill all the lights, release fog into the air, and then start hitting the strobe. Needless to say, for me, the lighting was a big choke point. The lighting did not convey much mood at all.

Finally, at about midnight, they switched to some decent stuff. It was a dance mix segment that contained Daft Punk, Madison Ave, and a few others. It was nice to pop a few glowsticks and get my twirl on. Picked up a few new moves too, which I will practice in all my free time I have.

So who all went? For the record: Karen, Nehara, D, and Sami. I offer no complaints.

Oh, and they didn't like my shirt choice either. I had my caoine.org T-shirt on. I will camstill model it, I swear! Add to that my bondage pants and boots. All black for a Hip Hop nightclub. I think it made a good statement.
