There was a weekend somewhere. I think I missed it as it went by though; kind of like drivers on Hwy 1 who have no qualms about doubling the speed limit. I think that will do it for today's pointless attempts at analogies. The weekend could easily be divided up into four sections: the preparation, the party, the 'illin, and the zzzzbt. Yes, I said "zzzzbt" and yes I know it isn't a word. Now then, about the preparation which took place all the way back on Wednesday. You see, I wasn't paying attention to my clothes reserves, and as a result was wearing all black with a somewhat silly vest thing for color in the outfit. Most people that see me on a regular basis could attest to the fact I don't often wear all black, and it is even less that I wear a vest as well. So anyway, if when I pulled this outfit out of the closet wasn't enough of a clue, grabbing my last pair of socks surely was. Thanks to an unexpected ICC officers meeting (last one, woohoo!), I didn't get to meet up with Erin for errand running until 8 or so. We had to hit Mervyn's as well as do laundry, and since she needed something nice for some ASAP conference thing, I went ahead and went there with her. We left the Del Monte Mall at about 9 or so, and by then all laundromats were closed. There was only one place left to do laundry...the dorms.
I want to say, right now for the record that all washing appliances located within the CSUMB residence areas are evil, dangerous, and otherwise not nice. I have learned over time that these machines eat clothes, don't dry them, take your money, and laugh all the while. While washing clothes, I learned some very important things.
Just because it says $1.50 to wash doesn't mean it will wash. In fact, it can sometimes take twice if not three times that in order to get the desired result commonly called "clean". Amidst the laundry detergent and swirling stagnant water left in the bottom of the machine, one would think that given enough time, the clothes would reach this clean state. I thought that perhaps one of the machines since it seemed to be several minutes behind the others, despite starting them all at the same time. Assuming them to be done, I attempted to open the washer.
When the washing machine door locks, it will take an act of God to open it. By now, Erin was laughing as I was braced against the machine, trying to pull the door open. Inside of it, I could hear the sickly spin that indicated "broken" and I wasn't about to let the machine stall out for good. I pulled I tugged, and I pulled some more. These washing machines must have had some sort of steel barrier that refused to budge.
This steel barrier is in fact a plastic tab. After inspecting this dastardly tab, I learned it was plastic. This also meant that I did finally get the machine open. This brings me to my final point.
The spin cycle doesn't spin. I reluctantly threw my soaking clothes into the dryer, annoyed that I basically could have duplicated what this machine did using a hose and a bit of detergent.
Time while waiting for these devices to work was spent in Chris and Michelle's room, where we watched some anime, talked, and basically killed time. I think I got back to my room around 3 or so, but at least I had some clothes to wear.
Skipping to Saturday, I hung with C/M again, and we watched some Naruto, talked music, got lunch / dinner at Companos, and did anime drinking games. I will report later on how those went. For those who are good at remembering introductions and excel at reading, you could have guessed this was in the "party" section.
The 'illin took place on Sunday, and it was good.
The zzzzbt was simply just that. I got an interesting call on the way home from an interesting person. How they had my number I don't know (since it had changed since Freshman year), but they did, they called simply to say "hi". Some times, you just wish you had the courage to hang up on someone. Ah well. I ended up being really passive and quiet online when I got back, and did my best not to think about it.
So much to write, not nearly enough time. Expect an update a bit later. Also, if I get time, I will be doing some updating to my web site and revising a few pages. Woo!
In response to "Happier That Way":
Are you there?
I never thought about this .
