Human Quality

What do you think is the most important human quality? Is there somebody you know who displays that quality in their life?

For me, the most important thing any human being can possess is compassion for another human being. It is a trait that sadly, at least in today's society, seems to be lacking. At present, the human race has little regard for themselves. We destroy the world we live in, kill the animals we live off of, remove the creatures that are the reason for our continued existance.

Compassion is a rare trait around here, especially when surrounded by surperficial people. It is sometimes depressing, only because you know they are too self-absorbed to see the large picture. They live their own self-centered lives, the only thing that is most important to them being themselves....

I guess because the trait is so rare is why to me it is so important. I mean, if everyone was compassionate, it would have no value. AKA: Supply and Demand.

(Lots more discussion skipped because I have LOADS of Spanish HW I haven't touched) The following was added the next day

Someone left a note in my diary, about how people take advantage of those with compassion. While I don't like to admit it, I do find it to more often than not be true. And the people who take advantage of those with compassion; you can likely assume what kinds of people those are. Perhaps at one point they did in fact have compassion, but those days are long since gone. And yes, hate, anger...these are what take the place of our caring, regardless of the reasons why. When my ex and I broke up, I know where my compassion went. Right out the window. I said several things about her I never should have, the firey hell I put my friends through was the result of those actions.

Now, I am not saying once you lose compassion, it is gone for good. For those that care enough to so much as TRY to be compassionate, the caring comes naturally. In reference to my own life and above event, I took great steps to heal the wounds I ripped open during our breakup. And while Sara may still not like me all that much, nor I her, the caring for each other's well being has returned. So compassion can in fact be regained with time. Unfortunately, that takes work, and nowadays, people couldn't care less about doing something if it involves the W word. end added section

People who exhibit this "compassion" well, that isn't too hard. All my friends for one, they are the most caring, thoughtful people I know. I don't think they'd be friends otherwise.

(I will flush this out more later, it is 1:30 am...) The following was added the next day

Probably the person I know with the greatest amount of compassion has to be my friend Steve, aka Darth Vader. Where did the nickname come from? Well, besides us being Star Wars fanatics, he is the "evil" that is really good inside. I mean, no matter how sour a mood he is in or anything, you know that "good Steve" is waiting inside, wanting to break out. So what does that have to do with compassion? He is someone who just cares. Not about you, or life, or friends; he cares about EVERYTHING. Steve wants only the best for any/everyone, and finding people like that is a rarity indeed. I mean, hell, even I can't possibly do that much caring, although sometimes I try. (Just ends up being worry for me.) But Steve, he can show he cares, and even without saying it, you just know he does. Everyone probably knows someone like that, where if your back was up against the wall, he would lower the rope so you could climb over.

And there would be Steve with that goofy grin of his.

That's what the world needs more Steves... Check that, more people like Steve. One Steve is enough to drive me crazy already. ;) end added section
