Much like the us-wide reaction to bans on interracial marriages back in the 1960's, we once again see emerging the hatred of change and acceptance. Call it what you want, and don't call it the M word, that's fine. However, when a state bars any legal union or partnership occurring as same sex, you are discriminating. For example, in the state of Ohio, United Health Care can now deny coverage to a beloved's spouse, simply because they are the same sex, and the Ohio measure bars any legal ruling that "intends to approximate marriage." No tax breaks, no claiming dependant, no life insurance, no health insurance.
On the plus side, they won't be factoring into the steadily rising divorce numbers. Indeed, it is a sad day. Maybe California in their gung-ho spending will determine that sexual preference, much like skin pigmentation, is not something you choose. Maybe then, the issue will come to the ballots again. Until then, it looks like it is going to be fought in the courts.
Meanwhile, I can't wait to see how this whole "Terror" thing plays out. Maybe we'll go after Nigeria next. I hear there's thousands of dollars waiting for us to claim- or so the emails I got in my inbox told me. And I'm the sole beneficiary for every one of them! Amazing!
In light of all this, every one of you who went and voted, regardless what you voted for, please give yourselves a pat on the back. While I may not agree with your views, I am eternally thankful you are doing your duty as a citizen and making your opinion heard.
In response to "Sad day to be gay?":
quite horrible. I’m shaking my head in disgust.
