For moderate to advanced computer users: - must know how to text edit files - can navigate directory structure - can back up files to desktop or other location
If you use anything that is "Ad-Ware" (shows you ads and crap so it is "free") here is a non hacking program way to get rid of the ads.
The Not-Technical Aspect You tell your computer that instead of connecting to an ad-server, to connect to an address that doesn't contain ads. Thanks to this, no ads can ever be downloaded, and thus can't be displayed.
The Technical Aspect What you are doing is setting static entries in a file called HOSTS that changes things like ads.cydoor.com to 127.0.0.1 which is the IP address for your own machine. Not finding any ads, the program gives up and moves on, but without the ads it so badly needs.
So How Do You Do It? Start with the basics. You need to locate your HOSTS file. Windows 95/98/Me c:windowshosts Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:winntsystem32driversetchosts Windows XP Home c:windowssystem32driversetchosts
The file is called HOSTS and there is no extention. Open it in a plain text editor.
It should look like this: 1. Copyright (c) 1998 Microsoft Corp. 1. This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP stack for Windows98 1. This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each 1. entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should 1. be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. 1. The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one 1. space. 1. Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual 1. lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. 1. For example: 1. 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server 1. 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost
If it looks like the above, you won't need to make a backup copy, and you can go straight to the goods. Simply copy / paste the entire contents into HOSTS, save, and away you go. If you run into some difficulty, restore your backup copy, and check this website for additional informaiton: http://www.smartin-designs.com/

ENJOY! :D
Note: After doing this, clear Kazaa's ads by going to your AdCache Directory: Windows 95/98/Me c:windowssystem or c:windowssystem32 Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:winntsystem32 Windows XP Home c:windowssystem32
Just toast the entire AdCache directory. You didn't want ads saved on your local machine anyway.
Still Another Note: You will lose your Kazaa front page, but if you look at the bottom, you will still connect. Honest! :D
